What is media?

Media of India consist of several different types of Indian communications media: television, radio, cinema, newspapers, magazines, and Internet-based web sites. Many of the media are controlled by large, for-profit corporations which reap revenue from advertising, subscriptions, and sale of copyrighted material. India also has a strong music and film industry. India has more than 70,000 newspapers and over 690 satellite channels (more than 80 are news channels) and is the biggest newspaper market in the world - over 100 million copies sold each day.

MEDIA AND ITS IMPACT ON STUDENTS :

Media is everywhere and it plays a very important role in a person`s life.
Media has the potential to shape personalities, change the way we perceive and understand the world and our immediate reality.
Its impact is very large on students i.e. maybe good or bad.

Media is of many types:
Computer 
TV
Newspaper etc..... 

Good impacts:

1. Social Networking is very common in this generation. So, it is useful to children to communicate.
2. In the television news also are shown so the general knowledge of the children increases.
3. By working on computers children get to know the advancement happening in the society.
4. Through speed in doing things the sharing of creativity also increases.
5. Social networking teaches students skills they’ll need to survive in the business world. 

Bad impacts:

1. Many children indulge into many computer activities which creates a reduced focus on learning and retaining information.
2. The children`s ability to concentrate on the task at hand is significantly reduced by the distractions that are brought about by YouTube, stumble upon, Facebook or Twitter.
3. The more time students spend on social sites, the less time they spend socializing in person.
4. A students`s life is effected severely. 

THE PROS AND CONS OF MEDIA!!

The Pros of media:-
1-Increased criminal prosecution because of social media.
2-Students are doing better in school.
3-Social networking creates new social connections.
4-Better quality of life.
5-Social media as a source of employment.

The Cons of media:-
1-Social media and the news.
2-Too much misinformation.
3-Pupils spending too much time on social media sites have lower academic grades.
4-Social media sites to blame for lost productivity.
5-Social media is the cause for less face to face communication.

It is estimated that 32% of the population have been texting on social media instead of communicating with the family members!!

MEDIA IMPACT ON  TEEN GIRLS!!

Media has its pros and cons. For instance,the media advertises photo shopped images of models that often influences girls to believe that if they buy this product or clothing of theirs, they will achieve a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction that is only achievable through this purchase. However, it has not been shown to give girls more "satisfaction" at all. Rather, it has proven the completely opposite effect. Recent studies have shown that there has been an increase in depression among girls that is linked with both obesity and can be caused by social media. As part of this "waterfall" effect, girls with obesity have been scientifically linked with having lower grades than girls who are not depressed or obese.

In other words,

1. Social media is prevalent in society today, and it has been scientifically linked with causing depression in  girls.

2. Depression is linked with obesity in  girls.

3. Obesity is also linked with lower grades in  girls.

4. Ultimately, social media is affecting the health and education of  girls nationwide.

5. Media affects the overall performance amongst children.

6. Media creates an inferiority complex amongst girls.

Archie Comic Banned in Singapore!

Archie comic was banned in Singapore. Archie:The Married Life Volume Three was banned by Singapore's Media Development Authority, according to the independent Singapore, a news website.

"We regret that Married Life is seemed to breach the content guidelines for imported publications! And removed for sale by notice of MDD. We are not able to sell this title.", said a major book seller in Singapore.

 The Overall Impact of Media on a Nation's society

Media is any medium through which any sort of information reach the people
Media can create awareness about:·        Perpetuate Issues
·        Establish Priorities
·        Mold Society (in passive but effective way)
The functions of media in our society is:·        To inform: People come to know what, when, where, who, why & How the things are happening
It brings about greater awareness among the masses about men and materials.·         To educate: Media educates people by giving information about food, health, employment, agriculture, technology, modernization etc.
·        To entertain: Movies, serials, animations, music etc.
·        Positive Impacts
·        A Watchdog on Government
·        Voice of poor is heard through media: A trump card for Common man
 




There are several disadvantages of media as well:·        It is a one way communication, so improvement through feedback is virtually       impossible
·        Affect the thinking capability of individuals
·        Instill negative thinking patterns in society as a whole

The Internet is a part of today’s culture that many teenagers cannot even imagine what the world was like before the Internet existed. The Internet is fun, informative and a great source of communication with others. It's an educational tool and users can learn about almost anything. Sharing information through Internet is easy, cheap and fast. Teenagers have access to billions of websites containing information in the form of text, pictures and videos. The internet like other technology has positives and negatives effects on teenagers. Teenagers have access to pornography, obscenities, and ways to make drugs, bombs or even participate in online sexual practices. Teenagers can also become heavily addicted to the internet, which can often lead them into depression, with little or no face-to face time with others. There are also issues with teenagers hacking into school databases, banks, government websites, friends or strangers computers. If your teenagers are spending too much time on the internet, they are at risk of getting involved with one of these activities.
